In China, the dragon is a symbol of good luck, possessing great strength, wisdom, fertility and dignity. Dragon dance or pinyin: wǔ long is performed by a team that, through cooperation and harmony, controls a long, gracefully coloured dragon that mimics the undulating movements of this mythical river god. In Dragon Squad, teams design and build a Chinese dragon. Then, armed with musical instruments, each team choreographed a piece of music and practised their dragon dance. Then, with their uniquely designed dragon, they work together to create a dignified and coordinated dragon dance. Points are awarded to teams for creativity, performance, and teamwork.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
In Dragon Squad, teams must use their creativity, ingenuity and project management skills to design and build a dragon. Teams evaluate the task and then form specialized units to work together before bringing all the elements together. Success in the build phase requires cross-functional collaboration and active communication to ensure that all departments come together as intended. Music and dance choreography are based on creative thinking and collaboration. Putting it together in rehearsals and final performances requires exceptional leadership skills and teamwork.
